"When Jack Left" in Lunch Ticket
"When Jack Left" was published in Lunch Ticket, Issue 9, in June, 2016.
The germ for this story was the opening sentence and the idea of a child confronting an inexplicable reality. The rest of the story built itself out of bits of our experiences in Arizona, where for a few years, we had the privilege of ministering in a place where drugs had run through the community like termites. We love the people there——both those battling drug addiction and their suffering families——and I'm hopeful this story reflects that love.
