"The Golden Head" in Zetetic Record
“The Golden Head” was published in Zetetic Record (now defunct) in February, 2016.
The story was generally inspired by having observed some of Spain’s famous religious processions.
A reviewer later told me that the opening reminded them of an early Simpsons episode—The Telltale Head—and on reading the plot synopsis, they're not entirely wrong!
But I have to plead ignorance of the early Simpsons episodes. I believe I was 9 when that episode aired, and my parents were among those who did not permit their kids to watch the Simpsons. It's possible I saw it on reruns during college, and that the opening stuck in my head, but thankfully the similarities stop at the beginning.
